Programs and Assets

The Collin County Historical Commission is one of the most active county historical commissions in Texas. It oversees a number of programs that support, promote, and provide for the historical preservation, protection and education of Collin County. The Collin County Historical Commission is also truly groundbreaking in the initiatives it has launched in the last few years.

Emergency Grant Program

Helping with the Unforeseen

The Emergency Grant Program of the Collin County Historical Commission was started in 2009.

Its purpose is to give Collin County historical organizations a helping hand when the unpredictable happens, whether by nature or man. This program offers a limited amount of funding for emergency repairs to local historical groups' buildings or sites.

Emergency grants may be applied for at any time, subject to the availability of funds on hand.

The historical organizations must be members of the Collin County Historical Coalition and must have 501(c)3 or 501(c)13 status.

Historical Asset Survey

Preserving Our History, One Asset at a Time

For the first time in Texas, a county-wide survey and cataloguing of all local historical assets have been accomplished.

Now, by accessing the survey map,you can look up what and where our local historical buildings, sites, markers, and other assets are.

Though this is a work in progress (meaning that it will be updated as new assets are found), years of work have gone into the research, data input, mapping, and program design required to provide this feature to you. This project, a joint effort of the Collin County Historical Commission, Collin County's GIS and IT departments, and a large group of volunteers around the county, is one very important tool for the historical preservation and education efforts in Collin County. It becomes even more critical to identify and publish our local historical assets as Collin County continues to be one of the fastest urban-developing counties in America.

You can help too. If you are aware of a historical asset that isn't included in this survey, please complete the Historical Asset Survey Form* and email it to cchc@co.collin.tx.us with the subject "Historical Asset."

Please enjoy exploring this Survey Map of Historical Assets, sharing it with others, and even visiting some of the sites listed. It's your county, so enjoy its present and past!
